I was part of the Outpost’s Monster Drawing Rally at the Armory, and these were the pieces I made during my hour:
This set of drawings was an investigation on the relationships between the body, space at a human scale and invisible networks that surround us. Here is the whole set: http://daniellara.com/1000drawings
From July 25, 1946. The first underwater atomic device was detonated at Bikini Atoll, one of the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific. It was the second of two bombs, Able and Baker, that comprised Operation Crossroads; each weapon had a yield equivalent to 23,000 tons of TNT (23 kilotons).
The U.S. Navy conducted the tests to determine the effect of such weapons on ships at sea.More than 130 newspaper, magazine and radio correspondents from seven nations were present for the tests. (http://www.peacebuttons.info/E-News/peacehistoryjuly.htm)
These drawings were for a show titled “My New Country” at LAAA. It was just after Obama was elected and there was a positive atmosphere full of hope. I realize how lucky the US was at the moment, and how unlucky other places on earth were for newborns.
Yesterday I dreamt of a flying javelina.
